Reliable Car Repairs and Exceptional Service
About Us
At Check Engine, we understand the barriers to asking for help and take men's mental health seriously. The thought of sitting in an office across from someone who can't relate to your lifestyle and struggles can be a barrier to someone seeking mental health support.
Together, we are changing the game. Just like a cracked engine block, we are rebuilding the social work practice for men. Our team removes the "office" and replaces it with the garage, workshop, or gym. We provide opportunities for people to work on cars, get creative with custom metal and wood work, or go for a one on one workout session with our personal trainer.
As a fully registered, licensed and insured practice under the Ontario College of Social Workers, we encourage peer to peer support. We go where we are needed and make it work, so that it works for you. We specialize in Trauma, PTSD, Anger Management, Coping & Regulation, as well as mindfulness.
We recognize that for many, a lack of financial means can be a barrier to seeking support for mental health. While we do accept many different types of insurance benefits - and through the generosity of local businesses that share our vision and want to help - we offer sponsored sessions to people with limited insurance benefits and/or finances.
At Check Engine, we believe everyone has a right to seek mental health care, and we are here to help.

Our Approach
What makes us different than regular mental health support?
Supportive Environments
Safe Spaces
Our supportive environments and safe spaces are designed to provide men in the blue collar community with the comfort and resources to address their mental health concerns without fear of judgment or stigma.
We remove the desk, the boundaries, and created a man cave of mental health that supports, encourages, listens, and validates the men who come see us.
Innovative Techniques
New Strategies
We utilize innovative techniques and new strategies to help men in the blue collar community overcome mental health challenges and seek the support they need to live healthier and happier lives.
From Peer to Peer support from like-minded individuals to Walk & Talk - Garage Therapy, we know some of our clients will need more services than a friend in the garage. Clinical services are available by a licensed Psychotherapist - Master of Social Work who is a car enthusiast, has worked in many blue collar trades, and is studying for a PhD to support men. Our goal is to close the services gaps in a mental health field that has left many men behind to swallow their issues.
Awareness Programs
Stigma Elimination
Our awareness programs focus on eliminating stigmas related to mental health in the blue collar community, fostering a culture of understanding, empathy, and support for those who are struggling.
